Open Archive
2026

Installation
Open Archive is an interactive outdoor installation built in front of Richardson Memorial Hall, the home of
Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment.

This year’s concept centers on creating a space for exhibition: an architectural object that doubles as a framework for displaying work produced at the school. Open Archive includes walls, frames, pedestals and platforms designed to hold a range of work. Rather than a fixed archive, it’s meant to be an open, shared platform, bringing different projects together in one place and allowing them to be seen in relation to each other.

The work is developed as part of a design-build seminar titled Fluid Monuments

The first assignment of the course asked students to design a small object inspired by a specific piece of architecture. Each student selected a distinct architectural fragment such as a plan, section, detail, or structural element and used it as the basis for an abstract design. The exercise emphasized abstraction and the translation of scale, challenging students to transform a building component into a much smaller object. Through this process, they explored how formal qualities of architecture can be reinterpreted at a smaller scale, resulting in objects that are abstract yet carry traces of their architectural origins.
